How to: give more contrast and color to eyes
In our last tutorial we have discovered how to work with eyes, how to make them stand out of the picture. Today we will see how to make them lighter and how to give them more contrast.
In our last tutorial we have discovered how to work with eyes, how to make them stand out of the picture. Today we will see how to make them lighter and how to give them more contrast.
When working with eyes on a portrait picture, the best thing to do would be to start with this tutorial, then do the one we have seen last Wednesday.
- Open your picture.
- With your favourite selection tool (I chose the pen tool), make a selection of the eye.
- Apply a 3px feather to this selection. If you use the pen tool this can be done by right-clicking on your path, Make Selection… If you used the lasso, you can access Father options in the Select menu > Modifiy > Feather…
- Once it is done, go to Image > Adjustment > Curves… and moce the RGB curve and then the green curve as on the images below. Of course depending on your picture you may want to adjust to your liking!
And you’re done ! Your selection should now be brighter, with more contrast. The result is a perfect base to apply our second Photoshop eye tutorial!

My eyes are a dark moss color green which gives them a brownish tint depending on my moods. I need help with finding the correct contrasting colors that will make my big round eyes pop! I am looking to enhance them with makeup so they don’t get lost under my medium brown hair. Any help would be great!

That looks much better. I need to read up on more photo improvment techniques like this instead of just abstract manipulation.

green and blue are fairly straight forward but i’m not sure how you can make the color brown more intense.
any ideas?
